They might've made this movie because they got a good deal on the yacht, but nevertheless they've built a fairly effective thriller. Go to Full Review

Martin B @mberly5625 1d Don’t know why this movie got such awful reviews. I didn’t read the book, so any departure from the novel in the film had no effect on me. Thought the story and the acting were stellar. Always enjoy anything Keira Knightly stars in. The acting was good and the reveal was quite jarring. The production values were outstanding, as well. The suspense was riveting and pulsating. I would recommend this film to anyone who wants 90 minutes of tingling entertainment. See more James K @Jamesdkman 1d Apparently this is adapted from a book, one in which I haven't read. I'm sure my opinion on the film would be much different if I had. Going in blind, I actually really enjoyed this movie. I avoided it because the reviews were pretty bad, and it appears some of them are from fans of the novel. For what it did, I actually really liked it. I didn't find the pacing of the movie to be as bad as some people said it was; I thought it was fine. I'm really having a hard time critiquing this movie in the sense of it being bad. The acting was fine, the setup was good, and the cinematography was pretty standard regarding expectation. The only thing I can think of from what I read from fans of the book, the novel better captures Lo's sense of confusion and the questioning of her sanity far better than this movie portrayed; to which I say - fair point. The film does drop the ball in that area, but I personally feel the movie is well executed. It's an adaptation that works for me. See more Andi R. @ABRobbins1980 1d After loving the book, I was disappointed within the first 15 minutes of the film. It immediately abandons key elements — her flat isn’t robbed, she’s no longer a travel journalist, her relationship is barely shown, and even the reason she ends up on the cruise is changed. From there, almost nothing unfolds the same way. The way she discovers the woman overboard, the response from the crew, and the overall progression of events all differ from the novel. Instead of adapting the story, the film feels like it only borrowed the setting and a basic idea. Aside from taking place on a yacht and involving a death, very little of the book’s tension or psychological suspense remains. The movie focuses on portraying her as unstable rather than building the gripping mystery that made the novel work. Ultimately, it loses the thriller edge and feels like a missed opportunity. See more tim P. @TAP001 1d Decent thriller/action. See more a y @Rotten_Tomato 2d It’s a fast-moving entertaining psychological thriller. Why a lot of these pedestrian "critics" gave it a 30% rating doesn’t make sense. Who do they think they are … Siskel & Ebert? Some complained it’s not "believable". It’s not a documentary, people! I gave it a higher score to counteract the unfair digs. It’s not that complicated: make some popcorn on a slow evening, sit back, enjoy the 1.5 hour thriller.🍿 See more Sammy S. @Jksteps 3d Ridiculously stupid and implausible. One star is plenty.
