By envisioning a world where the consumers get consumed, the film calls for a reconceptualization of human and nonhuman relationships. “Under the Skin” denies human exceptionalism and supremacy. Go to Full Review

Under the Skin intimates that the search for spiritual or emotional renewal is doomed by the presence of death. The alien resists her temptation to feed on human life, but this results in her own body beginning to decay and to betray her. Go to Full Review

While this film features some interesting themes, it’s also methodical, mundane at times and feels like a bunch of random brushstrokes. Go to Full Review

…any film or streaming version of Faber’s novel would take an Avatar-level budget to produce, and the commercial possibilities would be limited, but Glazer’s sole misstep as a director was to create this absurdly truncated version of this alienating tale… Go to Full Review

sandie 10/19/2023 best movie to ever exist See more Jrn O @RT80907980 8h Clever idea, terrible execution. Should have been a 15 minute short movie. Waste of time. Even the title gives away, what's going to happen... See more Jody C @JodyCazz Aug 26 A crazy unforgettable experience! It really drove home the predatory nature of the threat. Scarlett did amazing with such little dialogue. The themes shown here do change and I believe the message is about humanity and loneliness on a deeper level. The score is amazing! Everytime we see a "hunt" we hear that creepy soundtrack and it drives home the unsettling parts of this movie.....Even when the "hunter" changes. I say all this to say this...the beach scene was heavy, the liquid scene was awful and I enjoyed it. HOWEVER! As artful as this movie was and as much as it did right.....it is a boring watch. It is absolutely not your "average" good movie and you will either hate or love it. Me personally am split right in the half on it. Scare Factor: 3/10. See more Patty T @RT86200310 Aug 24 I enjoy bad movies, but this is the most painful thing I ever watched. 108 minutes of silence in a1:48 movie that doesn't explain anything, like why e stare at a dot, a mountain, a mirror... Scarlet Johansson could have been replaced with a stuffed animal. I can sum up the entire movie in a sentence without missing anything. The director isn't as good as a creative 3 year old. Omg, crazy awful. She gets mashed, though. See more M W @katspike Aug 17 Watch it alone in a dark room... or with someone you know well who is patient, open-minded, and will not interrupt. There is minimal dialogue, uncomfortable scenes, and no explanation of the plot. The Glaswegian accents are difficult to understand - you're observing the world through an alien's eyes. Watch it knowing that almost everyone in the film is just a normal person - not an actor. They did not know they were being filmed (until afterwards). If a beautiful woman offered you a lift, would you get in? Would you follow her into a dark, dilapidated house? It's shocking, disturbing, strangely beautiful and very thought-provoking. Many will hate it. Some will think it's a masterpiece. Spoiler: ScarJo is an alien meat collector / farm worker. Presumably, she has learnt human behaviour by observing "white van man" sexual predators, so she takes on that role. The humans are basically farm animals... until they're not. See more Sam K @RT64113905 Jul 31 Do not listen to the positive reviews. It’s long boring and nothing happens. It appeals to people who like to sniff their own farts and pretend long scenes with nothing happens and a character stares into space is profound. Utter waste of time See more Read all reviews
