'v/h/s/85' establishes itself as one of the best entries in the saga, although, of course, it still ranks behind the first film, which remains an undisputed benchmark. this anthology manages to combine creativity, tension, and originality, offering segments that impress with their style, structure, and technical execution. each segment is well-written, directed, edited, and produced, showing that the 'v/h/s' format can remain fresh and terrifying when handled with talent. what struck me the most was the originality of the segments. unlike other entries that rely on clichés, here each story has its own twist, and the effects feel realistic and believable, maintaining the sense that you are watching authentic footage. the film succeeds in recapturing the classic 'v/h/s' essence, where tension arises from both what is seen and what is implied. my favorite segment was 'no wake', undoubtedly the one that initially made me think i was going to see a solid film within this style. its narrative construction, pacing, and the way it combines fear with mystery make it a memorable segment. on the other hand, i highlight the segment recreating the mexico earthquake, a risky choice since it is based on a real tragedy. still, according to audience reactions, it was well received, managing to convey tension and horror without falling into sensationalism. throughout much of the film, i found myself asking questions about the development of the stories, the characters’ decisions, and the limits of fear posed in each segment. this effect recalls what the earlier entries in the saga achieved, although here it comes across with a more modern and polished tone, showing that the franchise continues to evolve without losing its essence. in conclusion, 'v/h/s/85' manages to balance risk, originality, and fidelity to the saga, offering a horror experience that mixes the supernatural with the realistic, keeping the viewer engaged and surprised. it is an entry that not only entertains but also demonstrates that the 'v/h/s' format remains a powerful medium for telling horror stories in an innovative way. spanish: daba a la franquicia por perdida.
