Critics Consensus

Venom's first standalone movie turns out to be like the comics character in all the wrong ways - chaotic, noisy, and in desperate need of a stronger attachment to Spider-Man.

Audience Says

Some truly fun odd-couple chemistry plus the right blend of action and comedy make Venom's messy plot easy to forgive.

Ironically, the film lacks a bit of bite...

The film devotes way too much time to exposition (the first act feels like it goes on for about an hour), but once it gets going it's decent fun.

The result is so infantile that you barely care to wait for the mandatory mid-credit Marvel teasers.

Overall this movie has plenty of issues, most stemming from the PG-13 rating which just throws the tone, dialog, and even the action scenes into tailspins.

Venom isn’t quite so satisfying in its action department, but the main character(s) possess enough charm together to not suck the life out of the film completely.

Venom tried something new in a familiar world of pop culture. The foundation built on fleshing out Brock’s character and motivations made it stand on its own as canon.

The introduction into the world of Venom was gritty, comedic, and packed with the edginess you’d expect. Definitely worth it to see.

This movie had a great plot, it kept me on the edge of my seat especially at they end when Eddie was taken down by riot. Venom was exactly how I would picture in my head and Eddies character tied along perfect with it. The soundtrack at the end was great I loved the song venom by eninem and it went exactly with the film. The acting was great and Tom hardy played both character amazingly.
