Critics Consensus

V/H/S/: Viral is hardly a sensation as it cycles through the franchise's least frightening vignettes yet.

I recognize that it's part of the great horror tradition to beat a marketable name into the ground, but that doesn't make up for the disappointment.

While this is the only portion of this franchise entry to remotely deal with this motif, it's also the least effective, lacking in any real kind of cohesive design.

I think aside from the shorts being more nonsensical and not even remotely scary, the thing that upset me the most was the overarching storyline of "Vicious Circles."

3.4/10 The only legitimately awful V/H/S movie. It gets some points for ambition, but it falls apart due to wonky execution.

Definitely the weakest film in this franchise. But is underrated. Bone storm is a good segment. And I don’t mind the others. The wraparound segment was pretty bad but other than that it’s actually over hated.

5/10 Part of the VHS franchise. Guy chases around car being chased by a police to make viral video. Not great

V/H/S: Viral had potential, but it ends up being the weakest entry in the series by far. The found-footage concept feels tired here, and the segments lack the creativity and tension that made earlier installments stand out. Instead of building suspense, most of the stories lean on chaotic editing and over-the-top visuals that quickly become exhausting rather than engaging. There’s a noticeable drop in quality, both in storytelling and execution. The framing device is messy and doesn’t tie things together in a satisfying way, making the whole experience feel disjointed. While there are a few interesting ideas buried in it, they’re never fully developed. Overall, it feels more like a rushed experiment than a polished horror anthology. Disappointing and easily skippable. 3/10.
