Critics Consensus

Fatally undermined by dodgy accents and a questionable story, Wild Mountain Thyme is a baffling misfire for a talented filmmaker and impressive cast.

Loud and obnoxious...quite astonishingly panned, and it's so bad that there's an outside possibility it might become a marginal cult classic. But honestly? I doubt it. Go to Full Review

The script feels old-fashioned, offering contrasting results throughout the duration of the movie: sometimes it is adorable, sometimes reprehensible. Nevertheless, it offers warm moments filled with nostalgic longing for romantic epics. Go to Full Review

ben F. @BenFranz 3d What a lost opportunity for a great film that wasn’t. Great cast and acting but the writing was boring, direction marginal and production meh. Lots of potential with this one, if only. See more L R @rosenbel 4d Going in, it's helpful to know this movie is adapted from a stage play. It has big themes, dialog is important, and it's low on action. Given all that, yes, it is ironic that the actors do terrible accents, particularly Queens NY's own Christopher Walken. But he has the acting chops for the role, so perhaps best to just roll with it! The themes include how to keep a family farm going in modern times, the death of one's original family, family histories and roots vs making a clean break, and what role does "place" play in all that. So the fact that the cinematography is good is another plus. Probably best to use captions for this one, the dialog is what makes it. Don't go in with typical romantic comedy expectations, it's a fable, hence stereotyping. Like Moonshot, it's a romance for "people of a certain age." It's quirky, but if you're up for that, worth a shot. See more Sheri T @RT96184230 May 16 Loved this movie! Charming, funny, odd, unexpected, well developed characters, subtle with some amazingly thoughtful lines. Highly recommend See more George R @Dirksy May 13 I normally agree with the critic and audience reviews but I truly enjoyed this movie. I thought the acting and writing was excellent. The setting was beautiful. Maybe I was in the right mood but I don't think so. Check it out.
