Phoenix does a fine job as the traumatized killer for hire. Well directed by Lynne Ramsay with some striking visuals. A fairly short film but visceral and interesting. Not a film to look for easy answers with plenty of time shifts and little dialogue. The cruelty and the blood and the torture of people, without any understanding of why, or any justification for it, may be good for experimental filmmaking, or the dark web that was probably not dark enough for that, is it not worth watching for any good reason. I watched it because I love Joaquin Phoenix, I was hoping this was going to evolve into something other than violence, but it never did. You can't even like him, the main character because there's so very little dialogue or any reasons given for what's going on. There's no good reason for any of it to be going on other than the Director screenwriter a woman yet, wanted to make a movie that might get the attention of Hollywood as it seems that violence and blood are much of what they put out these days. The editing might also get someone a job. But the script writing in the entirety is disgusting. Nothing good to See more Ray H @RT31534255 Jul 30 I try to give movies the benefit of the doubt. It is not so much the acting but the script, dialog, momentum, and direction of the story. What was the message? One could almost sum up the entire first 30 min to two or three sentences. There was no meat to chew on to draw you in. I felt like I was watching a pot of water on the stove but forgot to turn the burner on and watched it for 30 min do nothing.
