What to Know

Critics Consensus

A quiet, dialogue-driven thriller that delivers with scene after scene of gut-wrenching anxiety. David Fincher also spends more time illustrating nuances of his characters and recreating the mood of the '70s than he does on gory details of murder.

More than any American movie of the past decade, Zodiac accepts and embraces irresolvability, which may be why it's so hypnotically rewatchable. Go to Full Review

Downey Jr is perfect as the alcoholic wastrel of a crime reporter Paul Averi, as is Mark Raffalo as the dependable cop David. Go to Full Review

[W]here Se7en, with its stygian gloom and theatrical executions, inflated the serial killer genre to gothic proportions, Zodiac lets the air back out. It is methodical rather than macabre, clinical rather than cruel. Go to Full Review

Zodiac is a heavily dialogue-driven affair with endless scenes of powerful men arguing in offices. Fincher brings it all to the screen with his trademark attention to detail and tireless quest for truth and verisimilitude. Go to Full Review

Moira I 09/18/2022 Good thriller, fine cast See more Ryan C. @djrmc24 20h Zodiac is a very good and perfectly orchastrated film from legendary Director, David Fincher. Every scene is full of so much rich detail and quality, that you would think you were transported back to the 60’s and 70’s in the Bay Area. Those who are looking for a big slasher film are going to be very disappointed because this is about the real life Zodiac killer who had 7 victims. Most of the kills happen early on in this film and the rest is about the local newspaper team and officers trying to solve who is responsible. Of course those who know the real life story will know that they never end up catching the one responsible but nearly almost figured it out. The film really shows the work that went in trying to solve these cases and how time consuming and draining it became on those involved. The film is a little overlong and the pacing not as tight as one would expect from a Fincher film. Still this an enjoyable ride even though the tone of the film is dark. Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr, and Jake Gyllenhaal all give great performances. Zodiac gets a solid 4 stars out of 5 from me. See more Rafaël Z @CINERAF 1d The movie is long but breathtaking. Jake’s acting is always top tier in every movie he’s in, and this movie was not an exception! See more Yash S. @brownvista Feb 1 Absolutely loved this movie.
